Licences & attribution

Every wallpaper page shows the licence that applies to that image. Unless a page says otherwise, wallpapers are free for personal use on your own devices.

Licence types

Personal use — use it as a wallpaper on your own devices. Don't sell it, re-upload it to other wallpaper sites or use it in commercial work.
CC0 — the creator has given up their rights; you may use it for anything.
Public domain — no copyright restrictions (for example most NASA imagery). NASA images may not be used to imply NASA endorsement.
CC BY — free to use, including commercially, as long as you credit the creator named on the page.
CC BY-SA — like CC BY, and if you change the image and share it, you must share your version under the same licence.
No remix — personal use only; please don't edit and republish it.

Where images come from

Besides our own originals and creator uploads, some wallpapers come from open collections whose licences allow sharing: Wikimedia Commons (CC0, public domain, CC BY, CC BY-SA), the NASA Image Library and The Met's Open Access programme (CC0). Each of these pages names the author and links to the original source and licence. We do not take images from stock or wallpaper sites whose terms forbid it.

Attribution

Images from creators and open collections carry the creator's name and source on their page. If you think an image is credited wrongly, tell us.
